From the Cast Iron Electra and the UCE Thunderbird, the Continental GT and now the Himalayan, Royal Enfield’s motorcycles are an unexplainable attraction. The thing that I deeply respect them for, is the way the company balances the needs of the present, while staying true to their illustrious British origins and classic motorcycling lineage.
Royal Enfield riders cover a wide range of riding conditions; from densely populated cities to some of the remotest parts of the country. I love how each one of them can walk into a Royal Enfield store, or go online and get the best protective riding gear, as per their needs and finances. The company has roped in the likes of Shiro and Rev’it! to achieve this. The Royal Enfield gear portfolio is inspired not only by the motorcycles in their line-up, but also the terrain they frequent and the soul of their riders across the country. Quite befitting a motorcycle brand that is the oldest one in continuous production today.
I still remember the launch of their adventure touring protective riding jackets viz. the Darcha and the Kaza. They were so desirable that I wanted to buy them, even though I knew that my riding would never do justice to either of them!
- Made in collaboration with global experts, Rev’it! the Darcha is designed to cater to the most demanding of riders. The Kaza, on the other hand, trades in a bit of the technical edge for higher touring comfort. Named after the great mountain regions of the North that Royal Enfield is synonymous with, they are ideally suited for the best protection in the harshest weather conditions.
- Then there’s the Safari Touring Jacket, which is just right for spontaneous tourers and weekend explorers at lower altitudes, like me. Robustly designed, this jacket gives me just the protection necessary, while keeping things flexible in terms of weather specific layering.
- Riders in the hot/humid parts of the country as well commuters in the city, would find salvation in the Jaisalmer Summer Mesh Touring Jacket. The 80% mesh construction ensures great air-flow and ventilation, while offering abrasion and impact protection along the shoulders and elbows where I’d need it the most. The reflective panelling also helps improve visibility, thereby adding to the safety quotient of the jacket.
- Lastly, there’s the Explorer Black V2. The Mesh-textile construction with a removable winter-liner ensures that this jacket is the perfect middle-ground. Great for those of you who want a single-jacket solution that’s not too technical and is easy to live with.
This approach of offering something to every Royal Enfield rider, up and down the value chain that resonates across the company’s entire Riding Gear portfolio makes for great business too. How do I know? Well, I picked up their Long Riding Gloves and the RE Reflective Buff recently. I then went onto their online store and ordered the Zanskar Oil Pull-up Boots only days later. The Safari Touring Jacket and Jaisalmer Summer Mesh Touring Jacket are next on the list. Simply irresistible, I tell you.
Got. To. Keep. Away. Not 😀
Stay protected, keep riding!

There is something about the Biking gears which makes them suave and extremely sexy too. Nice write up .
